What, no corn field?

The Kansas City Royals spring training stadium just appears all of a sudden as you're driving down Bell Road in Surprise, Ariz., sort of like a scene out of "Field of Dreams." The drive seems like it takes forever if you're staying in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area, but the stadium is quite impressive once you finally arrive. Appropriately named Surprise Stadium (someone must have thought long and hard on that one), it's shared by the Royals and Texas Rangers. The entire complex includes six or seven immaculately groomed baseball diamonds, giving both teams plenty of room to practice. The fields look almost identical too, even the lighting structures. When you get out of your car in the media lot, it's almost difficult to figure out which field to walk toward. An impressive facility, if only it were a little closer to civilization.
